Celebrating Grandpa's Birthday

As Grandpa and Barbara were about to leave on a birding trip to Hungary, they would be away for Grandpa's birthday. So they invited the family over for a hike, pizza and ice cream sandwiches. Sam gave Boots a snack and had a little play in the backyard, then he hopped on his "tricycle" and pedalled off to the dog park. Everyone was hungry and thirsty when they returned, so we enjoyed a relaxing dinner together. Sam and Papa helped Grandpa blow out his birthday cookie candle - three generations of candle blowers. Then he showed Grandpa the "poisson" and the "bateau" on his homemade birthday card. As it was getting dark, Sam, Grandpa and Uncle Grant read his new book, L'étang, several times before he set off for home to "faire dodo".

Grandpa picked Grant up at Christiaan and Annie's at 10:30, so stopped by Sam's house for a brief before-lunch visit.

Sam noticed that some of the cucumbers were ripe, so, with Dad's help, he picked one and nibbled at it.

Then it was time to show off his jumping, swinging and sliding skills.  He showed Grandpa the 'dolphins' and 'requins' on his plastic pool.  The pool remains empty because of the drought and resulting lack of water in the well.

Then it was time for one more jumping session and sandbox play before lunchtime.

Grandpa & Uncle Grant visit Sam & Papa

With Karine working and Grant due to start house and zoo sitting at Christiaan and Annie's in late afternoon,  a morning visit to Kirk's was just the ticket.

Uncle Grant played with Sam while Kirk and Grandpa split some wood from the large stumps.  Sam got a stick for Boots and played on his trampoline and slide.  Then he got in the trailer to play with his jeep.

Kirk made a nice sandwich for lunch.  Then Sam sat on the toilet for a while with a book before going for his nap.

After lunch, Grant and Grandpa split a few more giant logs while Kirk worked inside on the new bathroom.  Before we knew it, Sam was back up and it was time to take Grant over to look after the animals.

A Visit with Uncle Grant

This week Uncle Grant was housesitting at Christiaan and Annie's, Kirk's Ferry, including looking after several pets. Samuel and his parents came over for a visit. He loved taking us on a tour of all the animals. His favourite are Christiaan's colourful "poissons". He also helped Grant with sweeping. Finally, the tired boy left for home - just 7 km away.
